Thanksgiving or Thanks-living

Thanksgiving is always a special day...but today had just a little something extra...not sure what it was...but my thoughts and heart strings were just racing all day with thoughts of thankfulness. It was good to be with my family and just enjoy everyone's company...the turkey bowl was awesome of course...nate's team did win the trophy...but even during the game i found thoughts of thankfulness...for kids that play a silly game of football and not get mad at each other...for a wife that got out there and ran as hard as everyone else...for a dad and a brother who make for a great grandpa and uncle combo...they treat our kids super-special...
It was also very special to have a dear friend, Mrs. Esther Cookman share our Thanksgiving meal with us. Many of you will know the name "Cookman" and know that their family has been special all through my life. Just visiting with her briefly today made me really thankful for the years of friendship and mentorship that I have spent with her sons and their families. The Cookmans are extra-super people and I am thankful to have had them in my life. Noel Cookman and I had a conversation over email a while back and shared some thoughts together. This on-going conversation brought back many thoughts today.
I am truly grateful for the implications of the finished work of the cross. Jesus has done and is doing so much for us...I am overwhelmed at the thought of it.
Here are some questions for your consideration that come from my conversation with my friend Noel.
What happens when...
1. we do not believe we lose fellowship with God when we sin?
2. we do not compare ourselves to others as being at a different level with God than we are?
3. we do not examine ourselves for sin but rather examine ourselves to see "whether we be in the faith"?
4. our maturity is not behavior modification but beholding Him more?
Well, just a few questions to help you think about the implications of the cross of Christ...if we really understood the cross I think thanksgiving would become thanks-living...we would live thankfully everyday.

I had the pleasure of traveling to Henderson, NC the other day. On the way, there were lots of churches, but one in particular caught my eye. It's "marque" out front had this on it, "Thanksgiving or Thanks-living". Now, I don't think it was coincidence, but God telling me to go back and read this entry. We really do have plenty to be thankful for...EVERYDAY! In the hustle and bustle of the world, it it easy to lose sight of the blessings we enjoy on a daily basis. Live each and every day with thanksgiving and praise!
